In recent years, there is still a big gap between China and the advanced level of foreign countries, which needs to be improved urgently. When the investment for research and development accounts for 1% of the enterprise's sales, it is difficult for the enterprise to survive. When it accounts for 2%, it can barely survive. When it accounts for 5%, it can be competitive. However, the average investment for research and development of food packaging equipment enterprises in China is less than 1%.
According to statistics, the national R & D funds only account for 0.3% ~ 0.5% of the sales revenue of enterprises, and the R & D personnel only account for 3.4% ~ 4% of the employees. The experimental conditions of research institutes and colleges and universities are backward. Compared with the level of foreign scientific research investment, China's scientific research investment is seriously insufficient, which leads to the low degree of automation of China's food equipment industry and poor market satisfaction; More single machine products and less complete sets of equipment; More main engines and less auxiliary machines; There are many products with low technology content and few products with high technology, high added value and high productivity; More primary processing equipment and less deep processing equipment; There are many general models and few models with special requirements and special materials. Compared with similar products abroad, the product performance is low in production capacity and high in energy consumption. The average energy consumption is 4-6 times that of developed countries. The production capacity of domestic relatively advanced models is about 1 / 2 of the advanced level of foreign countries, while the overall technical level of food equipment in China lags behind that of developed countries by about 20 years.

Behind the rapid development of China's packaging industry, a large number of complete sets of high-tech equipment still rely on imports, and a large amount of foreign exchange is used to import complete sets of high-end equipment every year. For example, plastic film biaxial stretching equipment, a production line of nearly 100 million yuan, was introduced in the 1970s. So far, 110 such production lines have been imported in China. In addition, almost all the aseptic packaging boxes and filling equipment widely used in the dairy industry are provided by a foreign company.
